Wilhelm Thell Winery
The Wilhelm Thell winery combines tradition and modernity in wine production. The Thell family has been dedicated to viticulture since 1950, with Wilhelm Thell taking over the business in 1997 and focusing increasingly on wine production.
Supported by his daughter Sophie, the Burgenland wine princess Sophie I, he produces wines that impress with their quality and authenticity.
On 14 hectares of vineyards, the winery cultivates a wide range of varieties, including Bouvier, Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and new projects such as Andau’s first blossom muscat with the 2024 vintage.
The grapes are processed with great care to ensure the highest quality. This dedication is reflected in the wines, which have been awarded gold at the AWC Vienna almost every year since 2008.

A particular highlight of the range is the “Sophie”, the estate’s most popular wine. This medium-bodied cuvée made from Zweigelt, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon was also awarded gold at the AWC Vienna in 2024. The winery also attaches great importance to sustainability and cultivates its vineyards in a certified sustainable manner.
With this philosophy, the Wilhelm Thell winery creates wines that embody both the tradition of Burgenland and the modern art of winemaking.
